International Homecoming Festival

August 1 - 11:00 am to 4:00 pm CDN - 22nd ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL LUMBERJACK CHAMPIONSHIP, Salmon Falls Park at the Milltown Generating Station. An exciting, high level competition that brings out the very best Lumberjacks/Lumberjills from the Maritime Provinces, Quebec and the New England states. Amidst flying woodchips, 11 events with cash prizes for winners of each test of forestry skills. Our championship has been chosen once again to be filmed by the Lumberjack TV Series and broadcast nationally on TSN, fall 2016 and spring 2017. 5:00 pm US/6:00 pm CDN – Opening Ceremony Celebrating International Friendship, Ferry Point Bridge.  This ceremony is an annual event demonstrating the friendship between our two countries. All area dignitaries, civic organizations, and community members are invited to attend.  Please plan your traveling accordingly as the Ferry Point Bridge will be closed briefly during this event.  Spectators are asked to follow behind area dignitaries to the bridge.  Sponsored by the International Homecoming Festival Committee. 

6:00 pm US – Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest, Triangle Park, Calais.  Kids 12 and under are invited to come create some colorful fun on the sidewalk.  Parents/guardians must remain with their children for safety. Free to enter!  Sponsored by the International Homecoming Festival Committee.  

7:00 pm US - MOVIES! at State Cinemas, 239 Main Street, Calais.  Open for International Homecoming Festival, Sunday matinee at 1:30, nightly at 7:00.  Info line, 454-8830.

9:30 am CDN - 2016 International Festival Sportsman + Fun Chess Tournament, Garcelon Civic Center, St. Stephen.  Registration at 9:30 am, games begin at 10:15 am. The tournament is a series of 4/5 rounds Swiss format with the time control of games in section 1 and 2 of 20 minutes and section 3 of 30 minutes.  Rounds depend on the number of players in each section. 6:30 pm CDN – Porter’s House of Pain International Strongman Competition, Border Arena Parking Lot, St. Stephen. A multi-event strongman competition event where competitor’s complete stations designed to test strength, endurance and drive. Atlas Stones, Farmers Walk, Tire Flip, Deadlift Challenge, Porter’s Press. The medley of Pain! Charlotte and Washington Counties and beyond compete. 10:30 am US – Bike and Doll Carriage Show, at the Calais Waterfront Walkway.  Come watch this adorable show! Each child 9 and under may decorate a doll carriage, a wagon, a tricycle or a bicycle for this fun showing, helmets are mandatory for children on bikes or trikes. Following Soap Box Derby - Charlotte Dial A Ride 4th Annual Ball Roll Fundraiser. Numbered tickets can be purchased.
